Eduardo Cunha de Almeida is an Associate Professor at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). His research interest is in database systems, specifically main memory databases and non-relational systems. His research projects include the investigation of new data structures, algorithms and database kernels to emerging hardware (in particular, processor-in-memory databases) and distributed query processing (in particular, SQL-on-Hadoop query engines). He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science, with high honours (félicitations du jury ), from the University of Nantes (INRIA - AtlasGDD Team advised by Patrick Valduriez and Gerson Sunye), France, in 2009. His PhD thesis was on testing distributed data structures, like distributed hash tables (DHT) and his MSc was on performance evaluation of data warehouse database systems (advised by Marcos Sunye). From 1998 to 2005 he worked as an engineer in database technology at HSBC Bank, GVT Telecom, and UFPR Foundation. He joined the faculty at the UFPR in 2009, working in the area of data base systems. In addition to this position, he has served as Deputy Head for the Graduate Program in Computer Science (2010-2012), Research Associate at the SnT Lab, Luxembourg (2013-2015) and Deputy Head of the Undergraduate Program in Computer Science (2015-2017).
