The Brazilian Symposium on Computers  in Education (SBIE) is  promoted
every year by the Special Interest Group on Computers in Education  of
the  Brazilian  Computer  Society.  Its  aim  is  to  foster  national
scientific research in  this field, also  providing opportunities  for
the cross-fertilisation of ideas and experiences between national  and
foreign researchers and students. The theme for 1999 will be "The  New
Languages of Technology to Support Learning," which encompasses a very
wide range of subject areas.
