Eduardo Cunha de Almeida is a Full Professor at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). His research focuses on database systems and data management. He works on projects involving new data structures, algorithms, and database extensions for emerging hardware, as well as distributed query processing and data profiling. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Nantes (INRIA - AtlasGDD Team advised by Patrick Valduriez and Gerson Sunye), France, in 2009. His doctoral work examined testing techniques for distributed data structures such as distributed hash tables (DHTs). He completed his M.Sc. on performance evaluation of data warehouse systems under the supervision of Marcos Sunyé. From 1998 to 2005, he worked as a database engineer at HSBC Bank, GVT Telecom, and the UFPR Foundation. He joined the UFPR faculty in 2009, where he has since worked in the area of database systems. He is also a CNPq PQ researcher and has served in several academic and research leadership roles, including Deputy Head of the Graduate Program in Computer Science (2010–2012), Research Associate at the SnT Lab in Luxembourg (2013–2015), Deputy Head of the Undergraduate Program in Computer Science (2015–2017), and Senior Researcher at the Exascale Lab in Switzerland (2023–2024).
