The Department only handles graduate student admissions. All undergraduate admissions are handled by the UFPR Admissions Office (Vestibular exam). Useful information on how to obtain an undergraduate degree in Computer Science can be found at http://www.internacional.ufpr.br.

Applicants to graduate studies in Computer Science must apply either to the MSc program, or to the PhD program.

The PhD applications can be submitted at any time, while MSc applications occur twice a year (usually in July and December).

Foreign candidates must fill out the application forms and supply the following documents with their application. Notice that forms are in Portuguese.

Supporting Documents

Application form filled in, printed and signed, with a 3x4cm photo attached to the the upper left-hand corner;
Two letters of assessment, preferably from teaching/research staff (holding a PhD, if possible) who have had an academic relationship with the candidate;
Resum�;
Undergraduate records, and MSc records for candidates to a PhD.

Obs: Foreign students are encouraged to seek a visum shortly after receiving their letter of admittance. The visum and the identification page of the passport are required for enrolment.

Degree Requirements

PhD

To fulfil thirty six (36) credits in taught courses;
To submit a paper to a peer-reviewed, high-quality international conference (ranked by CAPES);
To submit an article to an indexed, refereed journal (ranked by CAPES);
To pass the qualifying refereed viva;
To pass the Thesis refereed viva;
To reach formal proficiency level in the English language;
To reach formal proficiency level in the Portuguese language through the exam by the Department of Linguistics of UFPR;
To be enrolled for at least twenty four (24) and up to forty eight (48) months.

MSc

To fulfil eighteen (18) credits in taught courses;
To submit a paper to a peer-review, high-quality conference (ranked by CAPES);
To pass the qualifying refereed viva;
To pass the dissertation refereed viva;
To reach formal sufficiency level in the English language;
To reach formal proficiency level in the Portuguese language through the exam by the Department of Linguistics of UFPR;
To be enrolled for at least twelve (12) and up to twenty four (24) months.
